Mon Avis: The Pursuit of Happyness - Endearing cinema!

The pursuit of happyness( yeah.. with a 'y'..watch it and find out why!!) is all no romance, no thrill and no suspense. It is all about Will Smith's character who fights against odds to survive his penury, broken marriage and a growin son and in pursuit of happiness. Guts, conviction, self-belief and never-say-die in face of adversity...the character captures your apathy as the movie goes long....

Ups:

  • Will Smith has done a role of his life time and hence a well deserved oscar nomination to the movie and to him (equally sad loss in both categories...but Oh my personal bias for The Departed ;) )
  • Screenplay and direction are the heart and soul of the movie. A rather cliched story is so well laid out through Will Smith and Smith Jr.
  • Smith Jr. is an ace artist already.. Perfectly played out role

Downs:

  • Well......none... Just that it wasnt good enough to match Martin Scorcese's The Departed.. Hah!

Watch it.. No excuse to miss it... Endearing flick with a happy ending but enough to draw the tears out..

Happy ending: yes. But how shallow, inconsequential and weak of an ending!
