The movie is closely based on the string of murders of a serial killer who was never caught. A cat-and-mouse mental run which is often without conclusion and also comes teasingly close to busting the suspects..
Ups:
- brilliantly capabale of sustaining interest and obsession, though confusing at times but very detailed and edgy
- fact-based drama causing you to make an effort to relate events and follow the leads
- skilful rhythm to the plot and deft editing
- Jake Gyllenhaal, Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo do their bit and dont really take away anything from the larger plot
Downs:
- the length of the film might give you a twitch
- the inconclusive trail with no pay-offs generate as much of frustration as in the reel life to the ones on chase
- a nice period piece set in 1970s and capturing the era well on the CinemaScope
It is difficult not to like this movie, the intensity of this drama through celluloid will affect you not too late into the movie..
