Mon Avis : Bheja fry - Clean comedy, Vinay style!

If you have seen enough of Kya Kool hai..., No Entry and the likes then this one is without any double-entendre .. A neat and clean comedy which cannot be described having a script :). The sitcom stars Vinay Pathak, Ranvir Shourie, Rajat Kapoor, Milind Soman, Sarika and others. Everything said, this movie will make you go insane with laughter...Some serious comedy here. Lets not go for the storyline!

Ups :

  • Even if i were to take you as an alien and assume that comedy is not your types, you must see Vinay Pathak as Bharat Bhushan the protagonist.. He carries the whole film and does a hell of a job at it. He comes out as a champion comedian and is incredibly natural at it, the one who makes your Bheja Fry!! A safe thing to say, without him, there could be not be this movie. His timing, his spontaneity gives a new life to otherwise very mundane script. Superb piece of performance
  • The rest of the cast is just about good and fall in place with the leading man

Downs:

  • The script, the story or the lack of it...Sadly, this directorial debut is lifted straight from a french flick
  • The movie looks more of a play than a motion picture. I think it would be as tickling on stage as on silver screen

Kudos to Vinay Pathak for showing us yet again that comedy can be so unique and tasteful (without inneundos too! Huh)

Mon Avis : Shooter - Crass Spy Thiller!

This one is a spy cum conspiracy-to-kill-the-president cum double-cross cum action thriller starring Mark Wahlberg and others. Mark Wahlberg plays a retired sniper who is coaxed back into an unofficial, off-the-record assignment by CIA to plan the assassination of the President (who else???Huh) so that real plotters can be caught! Alas! He finds himself double-crossed and then the usual chase begins..

Ups

  • None too many to speak of except the thrill and action sequences
  • Not too many bores in the script
  • Mark Wahlberg is bearable

Down

  • Run-of-the-mill story based on a cliched spy novel (forgettable)

A spy action drama that is just about tolerable...
