Movie Review - 'Tashan' - Stylish Outrageous Gimmick !

The movie is undoubtedly a tashni affair that enthralls you from the very first scene. Resting only on some slick camerawork, outrageously colorful cinematography and star power , comes this Yash Chopra banner flick that may just about qualify as a TIMEPASS entertainment....A roller coaster ride taking you across locales from greece to ladakh, from kerala to mubai and from ghats of haridwar to allahabad.. this film is a banal stroy presented as a narrative of a call-center-guy cum english teacher casanova Jimmy (Saif) falling for Pooja (Bebo) who hires him to teach angrezi to her mafia boss Bhaiyyaji (AK). The seemingly benign pupose is actually a clever ploy of leaking some confidential information from Jimmy's call center for extortion of money. One thing leads to the other and then Bebo goes missing with few crores of rupees. Then comes in Bacchan Pandey (Akki) on a trail of Bebo and Saif...

Ups :
  • The film is all about stylish camerawork and breathtakingly colorful locales.. the movie's tashni highpoint is its cinematography which is so outrageously overwhelming that it overshadows the lack of everything else. How about that - even the dull looking ghats have been wonderfullly captured... the camerawork looks totally magical...with some slick editing.
  • Bebo! This movie is Kareena's answer to Aish of Dhoom 2. She lost pounds and that she makes no bones about while flaunting her figure. Playing a brash don side-kick and sizzlng in a two piece bikini (10 seconds front and back shots), she proves to be an eye candy of the film. Extremely sexy and oozing charecteristic charm, she steals the show.. see her in Challiya and Dildara...Total paisa wasool
  • Another solace of the movie is our own Akki who manages to tickle a funny bone or two..he shows he can fit in any role effortlessly ..he also gets some outrageous monkey like stunts
Downs:
  • Very ordinary script - The movie is a half-baked comedy, quarter baked action and another quarter baked thriller. Director's debut attempt focussed more on cinematography than story
  • Music is just about ordinary.. it sounds better with Video because of obvious reasons
  • Length - Just over 150 mins it is way too draggy , more so at the climax...
  • Action - So outrageous that you actually spend a laugh in the middle of it... too overboard
  • Anil and Saif - Totally wasted and in the movie only for their star power... Anil's costumes are disgustingly flashy...
All n all.. Tashan is a one time watch.. See it for Kareena and its cinematography...

Nicely articulated ups and downs there. I found the movie to be a little wannabe, especially the title. Well, I would be shy calling it a one-time watch. I watched it out of curiosity than anything else.
