Mon Avis: Movie review - Oye Lucky...L.O - Plainspoken endearing cinema!

There is a thing about the movie and you wont know what, that captures your attention from first frame to the last. If you have been lusting for the holiday hollywood releases to feed your appetite for good cinema, dont let this one pass off because of its corny name. Dibankar Banerjee's second attempt at cinema after splendid first Khosla ka Ghosla leaves you on a trail of picturesque winter Delhi. Casting accents from Jats to Punjaabi's this flick is mouthful of typical multifarious delhi locales.

OLLO is Abhay Deol's best work, though I still bet my shirt on his upcoming Dev D - a modern take on Devdas! He plays a cool as cucumber con man - theiving delhi households by con and feeding his worldly desires for better life and his lady love - played by gorgeously-simplistic Neetu Chandra.
Affected by his father's (played by Paresh Rawal) hostile apathy towards his demand for better things since age 15, he sets out on a brash conning spree. This is almost another take on Bunty/Bubbly but sans Bubbly and sans Yashraj rhetorics! He meets a godfather delhi conman (Paresh Rawal again) and as an insubordinate he turns to meet another vile character in form of an animal doctor (Paresh yet again in his triple role) who dupes him of a chance to set things straight!

Ups:

  • Wonderful cinematography and refreshing picturisation - The way the characters have been made to plainspeak hits you pleasantly. As if, this was intended to portray exactitude of real life.
  • Protagonist character charms his way through to the audience - best work so far from Abhay Deol - Fairly believable cons without outlandish digs !
  • Rest of the cast chips in with class acts giving typical delhi vibes - Manjot Singh (young Lucky) and Paresh Rawal included
  • Script - though seemingly banal, has been given fantastic treatment by the director - the editing included
Downs:

  • Music - was a disappointment - not that one was really needed
  • Paresh Rawal's tripling! though dint do much harm but wasnt a comprehensible move - Maybe the production house ran out of money and Rawal ran out of work! Smile
  • 120 minutes too long - The entire thing had a drag too it that you could feel by the time end credits role! Though not exactly a pot boiler, yet few moments had uneasy boredom taking over you temporarily. Could have done with shorter version
  • The Name - Do not know why they settled on this one! Could turn off a lot of people

All in all, another coming-of-age cineme that is as entertaining as it can get! Watch it for a true taste of delhi and Abhay Deol's act!

Fun filled cinema and super time pass. A treat for some-one who is 'non-delhi' and staying in delhi. :) And definitely as someone rightly said we have a Deol with difference.

@ Pavan

Exactly! This movie will work mostly in North and mostly in NCR /Punjab! The identification factor is what makes it tick!
