Mon Avis : Movie Review - Prince of Persia: The Sands of time - a popcorn affair!!

This movie definitely has a retro appeal. A charm that is so characteristic of the game our age group has played during our adolescence. Flurry of leaps on parapets, wood lines , rooftops, wall edges and swordfights - these heady sequences borrow directly from the scenic game. Alas, you see the games have an advantage - the thrill depends directly on the player's aptitude. Here, it is all Bruckheimer's vision (nothing similar to POC series) backdropping heavily on CGI effects.
Prince of Persia game barely had a script. It had a theme. Bruckheimer has done a decent touch up to the theme and constructed a script that just about satisfies the audience. Mix of characters are added to weave a mystic drama, enough to carry forward this 120+ minutes long affair.
Without diving into any part of ths story, I would merely put its ups and downs:
Ups:
  • Script somehow is able to engage the audience coupled with in-the-face special effects. Those who liked Mummy series will relish this movie.
  • Jake - is cute and fits the character nicely. His action sequences are made to look sturdy and his parkor free-runs add a believable touch.
Downs:
  • Arterton - is almost made to look like a silly doll - plastered with overdone makeup and short legacy from Bond movie "Quantum of solace"
  • Other characters (Ben Kingsley and Alfred) have sketchy parts , nothing much endearing
Watch it with a tub of popcorn - This is definitely an acceptable dose of special effects worth the ticket's price.
